University of Somalia (UNISO) today officially launched its annual Holy Qur’an Competition for the blessed month of Ramadan, a program that has become a significant spiritual and academic tradition within the University.
The opening ceremony, which was well organized and attended, brought together members of the university’s senior administration, lecturers, scholars, and a large number of students. The main objective of the competition is to encourage the learning, memorization, and practical implementation of the Holy Qur’an, while fostering a healthy academic and spiritual environment rooted in Islamic values and noble character.
This annual competition, held every Ramadan, is part of the University’s broader initiatives to enhance students’ overall development by integrating spiritual growth with modern education. The administration consistently emphasizes the importance of moral and religious upbringing, firmly believing that knowledge and character must go hand in hand.
This year, nearly fifty (50) students from various faculties are participating in the competition. These students have demonstrated remarkable dedication, talent, and enthusiasm in preparing for the event, reflecting their strong commitment to learning and memorizing the Book of Allah. The competition stages will include recitation, memorization, and knowledge-based questions related to Tafsir (interpretation) and Tajweed (rules of Qur’anic recitation).
The University leadership and other members of the administration delivered motivational speeches during the ceremony, commending the participating students and encouraging them to continue striving for excellence. They highlighted that the competition is not merely about ranking positions, but rather an opportunity to attain spiritual growth and divine reward.
In conclusion, the University administration sincerely wishes all participants success and progress, praying that this competition becomes fruitful for the students, faculty members, and the entire University community.
The Holy Qur’an Competition will continue in the coming days, and it is expected to conclude with a closing ceremony where awards and certificates will be presented to the top-performing students.
