UNISO 2016 Graduates of the Medical School at College of Health Sciences
Mogadishu – March 30, 2016: A magnificent Graduation Ceremony was held in City Palace Hotel for 86 students of the first MBBS batch of the University of Somalia (UNISO). At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr. Yassin, dean of the College of Health Science, addressed the graduation ceremony of the 1st batch of Medical Doctors from the Medical School at the College of Health Science. He congratulated the students for their academic performance, indicating that “this graduation came as a result of six years of hard academic work.”
Dr. Yasin provided a brief history of the College and emphasized the quality of the graduate medical doctors, assuring that “they are competent and reliable.” He reiterated that this came as a result of great efforts made by the Board of Directors who were able to attract competent professors from well known universities like Michigan University Hospital, Kings college Hospital, London UK, Erasmus University Holland, Dubai Orthopedic Hospital, UAE, and Curkova University Hospital, Adele,Turkey.
He also drew attention to the fact that these graduates were provided an opportunity to complete a one-year internship at thirteen (13) local hospitals, which had contributed to the efficiency of these doctors.
On his part, Dr. Ismail A. Siad, Vice-Chancellor of UNISO, reminded students that “Graduation is not just a matter of gaining a good degree. It is also about having good characters.” He emphasized the importance of having good characters such kindness, caring and respect for patients. “These qualities,” he stated, “give a human dimension to your job, and these are the ones through which you can attract many people.”
This well-organized graduation ceremony was attended by high profile figures from the government such as the Minister of Health of Federal Republic of Somalia, her excellence Hawa Hassan, who was the chief guest and Deputy Minister of Education, Culture & Higher Education and other officials. At the end of the ceremony, graduate medical doctors received their degrees from the board members and the university senior management team.
