The College of Health Science (CHS) at the University of Somalia (UNISO) was established on September 2009, as a School of Nursing with only 100 students.
Then the College has expanded to become a College of four schools; School of Nursing, School of Medicine, School of Medical Laboratory Science and School of Public Health. In 2016, the name of the College of Health Sciences became the Faculty of Health Sciences while the schools changed into departments.
The Faculty is located in Howl-Wadag District in the center of Mogadishu. Currently, it serves for a study body of 2356 in the different departments of the faculty, with more than 100 academic staff in various fields. The faculty has overcome many difficult circumstances, specifically, during the civil war and the conflicts between the Somali government and Islamic insurgents in the last five years.
Such conflicts forced the faculty to relocate from its base in Mogadishu to outside Mogadishu and, consequently, this period saw the loss of many students and staff members.
Besides training, research and health policy formulation, the Faculty offers specialized services to patients in the University of Somalia hospital and the Somali population in general through community outreach programs.
